CPAT

Information about the Candidate Physical  Agility Test (CPAT) for firefighter positions.

PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION CAREFULLY AND THOROUGHLY.

ALL DATES FOR CPAT TESTING ARE SUBJECT TO WEATHER CONDITIONS

The ability performance test is designed to test a candidate's skill in performing fire fighting duties which requires Ability agility, strength and endurance. This test consists of a series of events which are timed and have been designed to simulate typical tasks firefighters are called upon to perform at a fire scene.  Remember to wear appropriate footwear (closed heel and toe) and loose fitting, light workout clothing.  Sweats or long pants are required.  Be prepared to perform activities in cold weather.

Applicants will be offered two orientation sessions and two practice tests prior to the CPAT official test.  You can waive the opportunity to attend both the orientation and practice tests but we encourage you to attend at least one session.  Applicants who pass a timed practice test will be allowed to count the practice test as their official CPAT test. If you do not take the practice test, you will be required to take the CPAT test which is a pass/fail test.  CPAT events are conducted at the District Training Field located at 18412 Cameron Rd,Manor,TX 78653.   Click for Map!

CPAT Tests can be cancelled for the following reasons:

  • Temperature is below 45°F
  • Apparent Heat Index (temperature and humidity) is greater than 95°F
  • Wind of sustained speeds greater than 20mph
  • Measurable amount of rain (light drizzle) is enough to hamper the safety of the course
  • If CPAT tests are cancelled, make-up sessions will be offered

There are two guides:  CPAT Preparation Guide  and the CPAT Orientation Guide which provide details on CPAT and the eight separate events.
