Pumper Added to Training & Community Education

Tuesday, November 14th, 2017

During recent skills training, our Hendrickson High School Fire Academy cadets participated in a “Push In Ceremony” for our new training pumper. The history of this ceremony dates back to the time of horse-drawn equipment in the fire service. Firefighters had to push the fire pumpers into the fire station because horses were incapable of backing the equipment.

Our new pumper will be dedicated to Fire Department training and community/public education activities. It is a smaller fire truck, carrying a very basic set of equipment as compared to our front-line apparatus—but it is still able to meet the basic requirements of a fire truck for training purposes. The addition of this truck allows for more realistic training, helping increase firefighters’ performance on the fire ground.
