Facilities Technician I

Position Summary:
Responsible for day to day repair and maintenance support for the District; performing a variety of moderately complex preventive maintenance tasks, repairs, and additions to District buildings, facilities and equipment. Work involves multiple skill areas, including carpentry, air conditioning/heating, painting, plastering, masonry, plumbing, mechanical electrical repairs and installations and machine servicing.

Essential Functions:

  • Perform repairs and maintenance on facilities, building, and equipment at various sites within the District.
  • Respond to request (schedule or unscheduled) from clients for repairs, maintenance of facilities or equipment in a timely manner.
  • Perform periodic and routine walk through inspections of assigned facilities, identifies work requirements and performs work assigned.
  • Use computer to check status of on-line work order system. Complete work order and pick up parts as needed for repair.
  • Maintain required maintenance logs.
  • Researches and estimates time and materials needed and records time and materials used. Requests for needed tools, equipment, supplies and materials to perform assigned tasks. Monitors expenditures of supplies and controls inventory of equipment and tools.
  • Ensure equipment is in safe operating condition and report needed repairs to Director of Facilities and Logistics.
  • Work in variety of trades including plumbing, carpentry, painting (interior and exterior), plastering, general building maintenance, and mechanical repairs. Services and repairs heating and air-conditioning systems.
  • Facility maintenance includes but not limited to: floors, walls, sinks, water heaters, building maintenance both inside and outside.
  • May install cabinets and shelves.
  • May be required to disassemble/assemble and move furniture and equipment.
  • Perform minor repairs, such as installing/replacing broken glass, light bulb, light fixtures, switches and other similar replacement items. Unstops and repair toilets.
  • Comply with all safety practices and procedures.
  • Escort and monitor contracted activity to ensure obligations are met and completed. ā€¢ Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Education, Knowledge and Experience:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum one (1) year of related experience performing repair, or general maintenance in the upkeep of facilities, building, and equipment.

Facilities Technician II

Position Summary:
Coordinates staff and activities related to building maintenance, custodial and security functions. Implements routine and preventive maintenance schedules, coordinates schedules and assignments. Work in variety of trades including carpentry, air conditioning/heating, painting (interior and exterior), plastering, general building maintenance, and mechanical repairs.

Essential Functions:

  • Participates in coordinating and implementing maintenance and repair of building and related structures.
  • Inspects facilities to identify building maintenance needs and makes recommendations.
  • Schedules and assists with preventative maintenance and repairs of equipment and furnishings. Order parts and supplies, as required, tracks expenditures.
  • Researches and estimates time and materials needed and records time and materials used. Requests for needed tools, equipment, supplies and materials to perform assigned tasks. Monitors expenditures of supplies and controls inventory of equipment and tools.
  • Serves as representative with consultants and contractors and provides information about the facility.
  • Operates and maintains a variety of mechanical tools and equipment such as power saws, sanders, drills, air compressors, paint sprayers, and a various other hand tools for maintenance work.
  • Inspect departmental equipment; monitors and ensure equipment is safely and properly maintained; coordinates equipment repairs.
  • Oversees the operations, maintenance and general repairs of security, air conditioning, heating, plumbing, electrical, mechanical and fire protections venders/systems.
  • Performs gardening/landscaping application to include pesticides, herbicide and fertilizer.
  • Provides on-call assistance; response to maintenance issue and/or emergencies as required.
  • Moves furniture, file cabinets, equipment, etc using hand dollies.
  • May be required to disassemble/assemble and move furniture and equipment.
  • Perform minor repairs, such as installing/replacing broken glass, light bulb, light fixtures, switches and other similar replacement items. Unstops and repair toilets.
  • Comply with all safety practices and procedures.
  • Operates District vehicles as needed.
  • Assists other divisions as assigned.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Education, Knowledge and Experience:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum five (5) year of related experience performing repair, or general maintenance in the upkeep of facilities, building, and equipment.
  • Valid Texas Class ā€œCā€ Driver License.

Physical Demands:

This job operates in a field setting. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Position also requires walking throughout District building onsite and occasionally building offsite. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand as necessary. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

  • Ability to standing, walking, sitting, repetitive motion, reaching, climbing stairs, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, pushing, pulling, balancing, client/customer contact, squatting to perform the essential functions.
  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 100 pounds/carry up to 75 pounds
  • Subject to extreme temperatures, outside elements, noise, vibration, contact with dust, fumes and hazardous chemicals, foul odors, animal and human fecal matter, insects and rodents. Requires working at heights from ladders and scaffolds

Hours of Work:

This is a full-time position of a minimum 40-hour week. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. or 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.. Evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand

Travel:

Ability to commute between operational locations, within 30 miles or less, driving District assigned vehicles.

 

 

Compensation

This position will be filled at one of the following levels depending upon candidate qualifications. (Starting hourly rate.)

Facilities Technician I: $16.48 – $18.21   DOQ/E
Facilities Technician II: $20.81 – $22.96   DOQ/E
